COP23 UN Climate Talks - Rwanda Delegation Daily Update - 14 November 2017

Summary of Yesterday's Activities

Preparation of launch of African Circular Economy Alliance: The Rwandan delegation met with the Global Environment Facility to plan for Thursday's launch event. A revised programme was compiled and shared with all organisers.

Minister Biruta Arrives in Bonn: The Head of Delegation, Minister Vincent Biruta, and Rwanda's Ambassador to Germany, Igor Cesar, arrived in Bonn and met with other members of the delegation. The Minister toured the COP23 venue, met with Congo Basin Commission staff (of which he serves as President) and held a team meeting with the delegation to prepare for the week ahead.

Negotiations: Rwanda's Chief Negotiator, Faustin Munyazikwiye, and Amini Mutaganda attended a number of negotiation meetings, including the Head of Delegations gathering to move forward on developing a fair implementation guide for the Paris Agreement.

  • 16:00-17:00: Conference of Ministers of COMIFAC chaired by Minister Biruta in the Addis Ababa Meeting Room, Bula Zone wth Introductory remarks by Minister Biruta
  • 17:00-18:00: Climate & Clean Air Coalition Ministerial Meeting in the Room Rakiraki, Bula Zone with brief intervention from Minister Biruta
  • 17:00-18:00: Conference of Ministers of Environment of the Congo Basin/Blue Fund to further discuss the Declaration Project Roadmap 2017-2018 in the Addis Ababa meeting room, Bula Zone
  • 18:30 - 19:00: IUCN Forest Cocktail Celebration: Driving Bonn Challenge Momentum (Kigali Declaration) - IUCN Pavilion, Bonn Zone with Keynote Address from Minister Biruta on the status of the Kigali Declaration
  • 18:30-19:30: High level event with partners of COMIFAC in Bula 3 with welcome remarks by Minister Biruta
  • 19:00: European Union Cocktail Reception at the Bonn Marriott World Conference Hotel, Parliament Room
  • 19:00: Official Reception and special concert of Beethoven Orchestra organised by German Federal Foreign Office and City of Bonn at Oper Bonn, Am Boeselagerhof 1, 53111 Bonn

Alternatives put on table to break pre-2020 impasse at COP23 (The Economic Times - Monday 13 November 2017) -- Negotiators have so far failed to break the ice on the issue of pre-2020 impasse here during the ongoing UN climate change conference. Though an alternative has been put forward to make some progress, the developing countries on Monday refused to go for it and insisted to include pre-2020 issues in the agenda of COP23. Read more
