RESOURCE MOBILIZATION
The fund is an initiative of the Government of Rwanda to support environment protection and deal with the impact of climate change. The fund acts as the avenue through which development partners can contribute to Rwanda’s green growth ambitions.
The fund accepts contributions from both public and private institutions and we are ready to discuss with you if your institution would like to support the work of the fund.
The Government of Rwanda has demonstrated its commitment to the fund and the nation’s green growth by contributing US $4 million dollars. In addition, domestic capitalisation sources include:
- Environmental fines and fees
- Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) fees such as proceeds from forestry and water funds
- Other environmental revenue and seed financing from domestic stakeholders
Rwanda’s Green Fund is the only fund in that mobilises financial resources from the government’s own revenue sources. This makes it less vulnerable to external aid shocks.
External capitalisation sources include bilateral and multilateral development partners’ contributions and access to international environment and climate funds.
Private sector contributions are considered as grants and project co-financing in the short-term, and investment in the long-term, among others.
